DJ Randy Muller
If you've been to many weddings and/or other events, you know that there
are plenty of different types of disc jockeys out there. What am I like? Perhaps the
best way to explain myself is on a sliding scale from 1 to 10. At "1" is a DJ who
just sits there, pushes buttons, and plays music. No interaction, no professional announcements, and no coordination of the different events happening at the reception. On the other hand, a "10" is the zany, wacky, over the top DJ who is always talking on the mic and making jokes. He/she insists that the guests do
line dances, dress up as the Village People to do the YMCA, and put on rubber chicken hats for the Chicken Dance.
I am neither of those disc jockeys. On that same scale of 1 to 10, I am probably a 5 or maybe even a 4. I conduct myself with a style that is best described as "classy," professionally announcing and coordinating your reception without appearing the least bit "cheesy" or "tacky". I realize that you are the center of the party and that is where the spotlight belongs, not on me.
What music do I play? Normally the best way to explain my music selection is an imaginary pie chart split into thirds. One third of what I play is directly what you've picked out, whether it is specific songs, artists that you like, or just the general styles of music you prefer. The second third of what I play is music requests from the guests at your event, provided that they fit within your music guidelines. Finally, the last third of what I play is based on my professional judgement, these are the songs that I believe you and your guests will enjoy based on what other songs/artists they seem to respond well to.
